Frequently Asked Questions

You should avoid using deicing products, even ones branded as “safe for concrete”. These products can melt ice to make it safer to walk and drive on, but they can be damaging to the concrete… especially newly placed concrete as it takes up to a year for concrete to fully cure. The chemicals used can quickly deteriorate concrete. Plus it can produce more water which leads to freezing/thawing which can infiltrate concrete causing cracks and other issues.

Those lines are called contraction joints. As concrete dries, it is subject to shrinking. Concrete also will expand and contract with temperature differences. These lines help prevent the concrete from cracking or breaking apart in random spots.

No. Many use the terms interchangeably, but cement is actually one of the ingredients that make up concrete. Concrete is a mixture of aggregate (sand, gravel, or crushed stone), and a paste made of water and portland cement.

Concrete is measured by the cubic yard – measuring three feet by three feet by three feet, or 27 cubic feet. One cubic yard of normal concrete will weigh about 4,000 pounds.
